FAW Toyota announces completion of Chengdu production site
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai February 12) - FAW Toyota's 20 thousandth Prado roled off the assembly line of the joint venture's Longchuanyi plant located in Chengdu, Sichuan, the West China City Daily reported yesterday. The SUV's manufacture marked the completion of FAW Toyota's shift to the new factory, proving that the JV is not going to be pulling any blows this year in pursuing its 2011 sales goal of 30,000 vehicles.
The milestone also comes as Chengdu set its production target for this year at 150,000 vehicles and engines, an increase of 50 percent from 2010. Commenting on the issue, a Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone official was optimistic, saying that the city could completely fulfill the target.
In other news, FAW Group's other joint venture, FAW-Volkswagen, reported that Jetta production at its Chengdu brand factory reached 40,666 vehicles. FAW-VW's is looking to produce 100,000 Jetta sedans before the end of its second period in September of this year.
