Chery aims to break in to Russian market by way of Ukraine

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai February 24) - Chery will begin exporting complete knock-down kits to the Ukraine, company assistant general manager and spokesman Jin Yibo told reporters today. According to a report by the Economic Observer, Chery is hoping to use this deal as a springboard to enter the larger and more profitable Russian market.

The kits will be assembled in the Ukraine, where manufacturers will use locally produced parts to complete them. According to Chery, Ukrainian manufacturers will aim to use at least 51% domestically produced autoparts.

According to the report, Chery will aim to take advantage of CIS free trade agreements that allow for tax-free export of goods from the Ukraine to Russia. Chery, alongside fellow Chinese manufacturers Great Wall Motor and BYD, had previously encountered the problem of increasingly highduties when exporting their cars directly to Russia.
