FAW Fengyue to increase production capability to 200000 vehicles

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai February 24) - FAW Changchun Fengyue Motor Corporation, responsible for Chinese production of the hot-selling Toyota Land Cruiser (pictured), will expand annual production capability to 200,000 vehicles, Xinhua reported today.

The investment is reported to take shape of a 80 square meter production site located in the Changchun Automotive Industries Development Area, in the manufacturer's home city of Changchun, Jilin. Investment is estimated to exceed 4 billion yuan ($609m). According to Sun Guowu, vice president of FAW Group, the program had seen smooth progress since its beginning in 2009, with equipment installation to take place between March and August of this year. Production is predicted to begin this year.

Due to influence from the financial banking crisis, the program was put on the backburner until now. With both Toyota and Fengyue's parent company FAW Group determined not to wait any longer, the program is finally back on track. Industry analysts believe that the new site will help Fengyue to achieve its production capability goal of 3 million vehicles, as well as help further push FAW's domestic sales.
