India: Maruti sales grew by 28.2%

IC Tech News - In the latest report on sales of leading automobile players in India, Maruti Suzuki has shown impressive growth during last month. Maruti Suzki sales have grown by 28.2 percent during March 2011 over previous month. The company has seen growth rate of 38.8 percent in domestic market, however its exports has slowed by 26.1 percent during the same period.

The growth in sales of Maruti cars have been driven by new models in the market. The major selling new models have been new WagonR, revamped Alto, SX4 Diesel, Alto K10, Eeco and Estilo. With the launch of Maruti SX4 diesel, it has become only company in India having vehicles in all three versions i.e. petrol, diesel and gas. Company also sold 103 units of the newly launched Maruti Kizashi, a premium segment car.

The sales of the company have been mainly contributed by A2 compact cars which gave 43 percent growth in sales. Some of the popular models in the segment are Maruti Alto, Wagon-R, Estilo, Swift, A-Star and Ritz. The company sold 78,460 cars in this segment.

Maruti Suzki performed well in A3 sedan segment also by witnessing growth rate of 33.1 percent and sold 13,910 cars. Its main models in the segment are Maruti SX4 and Dzire. Another major segment for the company is C segment in which it has Omni, Versa and Eeco models. This segment grew by 32.6 percent bringing sales volume of 14,416 cars.

Another major auto player which has grown close to Maruti Suzuki is TVS Motors. It has grown by 27 percent contributed significantly by two wheelers and three wheelers sales. Tata Motors despite being popular brand and many models in its portfolio including Tata Nano could grow by just 9% in March 2011 compared to March 2010 as reported by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
