Chery to build cars in Malaysia

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 28) - Chery Automobile, China's largest automobile exporter, has agreed to with the Myanmar government to invest in the country's local automobile industry, Xinhua reported earlier this week. According to the agreement, Chery will invest in building a knockdown factory with an annual vehicle production capability of 3,000 to 5,000 units.

Chery has already sold nearly 10,000 QQ3s (pictured) in Malaysia, but has recently been forced to scale back production due to supply setbacks. Meng Tao, CEO of the manufacturer's Southeast Asian branch, said that from the time the first Malaysian-bound QQ3 rolled off the lines in April, response was overwhelmingly positive. With supply not being able to keep up with demand, it was only a matter of time before Chery began looking into local production.

As Malaysia's economy continues to grow, its automobile market is also expanding, yielding many big opportunities for Chinese manufacturers.
