Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 2) - After about a year of deliberation, FAW Group and its partner Volkswagen's pet project, the Nanhai factory in Foshan, Guangdong, has finally gained the National Development and Reform Commission's approval, China Business News reported today.

The Guangdong provincial authorities told the newspaper that they would be able to supply the certification to FAW and VW within three days.

With both FAW and VW China's spokespersons in Germany, there hasn't been an official response to the news yet, but it is common knowledge how important the new production site is to both parties. FAW and VW agreed to the project last June, and have been waiting for official approval ever since.

With the news, the new site has crossed its most difficult hurdle to completion. Construction on the project, which was originally slated for February, is expected to commence at the end of the year. Production is expected to begin in 2013.
