Hyundai see its Chinese SUV sales increase
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 13) - Hyundai's SUV sales in China have been on the rise, chinanews.com quoted from a Yonhap News report. Meanwhile, the manufacturer's sedan sales have decreased.
According to the report, the Yuedong version of the Hyundai Elantra (pictured below), Beijing Hyundai's best selling sedan, fell outside of the country's top ten. Demand for the car is still reportedly very strong, but supply limitations have kept the joint venture from selling as many as they would have liked to.
Meanwhile, the IX35 (pictured above) placed among China's top five selling SUVs. 9,100 IX35s were sold in June alone, while around 50,000 units have been sold since the beginning of the year.
Due to the attitude of its customers, Beijing Hyundai has begun to shift resources towards selling its SUVs, with the JV increasing the production rates of the IX35.
In other news, Beijing Hyundai plans to increase its domestic production capability from 600,000 to 900,000 by late 2012.
