Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 21) - Changan Suzuki's second production site will be located in Chongqing's western Banan district, the Beijing Times reported today. The joint venture made the announcement earlier this week. First phase construction of the 5 billion yuan ($775.8m) factory should be completed by 2013.

Changan Suzuki's current production capability is only 200,000 vehicles per year. Meanwhile, in 2010, the JV's sales broke 200,000 vehicles. It is becoming clear that Changan Suzuki's limited production rates are negatively affecting the JV's sales.

The new site will be built over the course of two phases, with annual production capability reaching 150,000 complete vehicles and 150,000 engines after the completion of first phase production. After second phase construction is completed in 2015, annual production numbers should reach 250,000 vehicles and 300,000 engines.
