VW's Chinese import sales exceed 30000 in first half of 2011
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 26) - Volkswagen sold 30,737 imported vehicles in the Chinese mainland from January to June of this year, the Beijing Morning Post reported today. The figure is 52 percent higher than the first half of 2010, much higher than the average growth in China's imported car market. "Volkswagen already has 70 dealers in its imported vehicle network," said Shen Xiaojie, VW's CEO of import sales.
VW brought over the Tiguan R-Line (pictured above) and hybrid Touareg to the Chinese market in the first half of the year. Meanwhile sales of other imported vehicles, such as the Touareg, Scirocco and New Beetle, have been as strong as ever.
The dealership network for VW's imported vehicles has grown tremendously this year, as well as expanding further into second-tier and third-tier cities. VW has also been taking steps to perfect its aftermarket sales service.
The luxury Phaeton (pictured below) has helped VW solidify its position in the domestic luxury car market. The new specialized design center for the Phaeton in Wuhan has recently has opened its doors, joining similar centers in Amoy, Guangzhou, Kunming and Hangzhou.
