BYD establishes EV R&D center in Hong Kong
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 28) - BYD has established a new electric vehicles research and development center in Hong Kong, Economic Observer News reported today. The center would cooperate with the manufacturer's auto part and production R&D centers.
BYD Board Chairman Wang Chuanfu has pointed out that Hong Kong's unique position as an international metropolis and its encouraging attitude towards new energy automobiles would be of great aid to the manufacturer's development of its electric vehicle technology. Mr. Wang stressed that BYD would be cooperating with the Science and Technology Institution to help manufacture zero-emission vehicles for Hong Kong's public transit system.
BYD is currently selling the F3DM plug-in hybrid, E6 electric (pictured above) and K9 electric bus (pictured below). However, electric vehicles make up a very small portion of the manufacturer's overall lineup. High prices and incomplete electric vehicle charging infrastructure have had a very negative effect on BYD's sales, with only four E6s sold in the first half of the year.
