GAC to introduce 1.8 L Trumpchi next month

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai August 2) - Guangzhou-based GAC Motor will begin selling the 1.8 L version of its upcoming own brand car, the Trumpchi, in September of this year, the Guangzhou Daily reported today.

According to General Manager Wu Song, GAC has decided on the early date in order to maintain a competitive advantage and satisfy purchase demands from the government, which require vehicles to have engines of sizes 1.8 L or less. The Trumpchi (pictured) has gained the necessary certification from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and other government bodies. It will be priced under 180,000 yuan ($28,057), which also fulfils another requirement for government vehicles.

Mr. Wu said that he hopes for the Trumpchi to become a leading brand in its segment, adding that GAC will be introducing a turbocharged version in the latter half of 2012. Earlier this year, the Trumpchi has already gained the honor of being the official car of the Italian embassy in Guangzhou. 

Furthermore, GAC has established relationships with nine of the world's top ten auto part suppliers.
