US: Audi tops list of most-stolen new cars
USA Today - The Audi S8 tops the list of cars with the highest rates of theft, the FBI's statistical arm reports based on the latest information available.
After the Audi, with a rate of 0.81 stolen per 1,000, comes the Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang, 8.61; BMW M5, 7.58; Dodge Charger, 6.47; and Honda S2000, 5.60; the Detroit News reports. The problem is that the latest data is from 2009.
At least it's fairly comprehensive data. The NCIC theft data is based on information provided from about 23,000 criminal justice agencies and other law enforcement authorities throughout the United States, the News says. Full-size pickups weren't included in this report.
With the adjustment for number of vehicles sold, the Toyota Corolla was the most stolen vehicle. It also happened to be the top car sold that year.
Car theft has reached the lowest level since 1967, says the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
