Daimler taps Stephen Cannon to head Mercedes-Benz USA

The Detroit News - Daimler AG has appointed Stephen Cannon president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, succeeding Ernst Lieb who left the company abruptly in October.

Cannon, 50, most recently vice president of marketing at Mercedes, will have overall responsibility for the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Sprinter and Smart brands in the United States.

The appointment takes effect on Jan.1. Cannon will report to Joachim Schmidt, head of sales and marketing for Mercedes-Benz Cars in Stuttgart, Germany, where Mercedes and its parent Daimler are based.
