Chinese minivan and SUV sales grow over 40% in February

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai March 14) - Recently released statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers show that production and sales numbers of all automobiles in February totaled 1.61 million and 1.57 million units, chinanews.com reported today. Both figures represent positive month-on-month and year-on-year growth for the country. The most noticeable growth came from the minivan and SUV segments.

828,200 sedans were sold in February, growing 3.85 percent and 30.88 percent from the previous month and previous year, respectively. Minivan and SUVs sales, meanwhile, totaled 42,000 and 139,000 units, respectively. The minivan and SUV segments grew 15.24 percent and ten percent from January, and increased a notable 43.08 percent and 42.28 percent from February 2011. Sales of crossover in the month totaled 203,900, increasing very slightly from previous figures.
