With the program, subtitled 'science drives a green future' in Chinese, now underway, the joint venture has officially taken its first steps into the field of new energy vehicles.

Officials from the governments of Guangdong, Foshan and its Nanhai District were all present, as were leading members of FAW-VW. Foshan Deputy Mayor Wan Zhikang commented that the event held tremendous significance for the city, adding that he hopes FAW-VW will be able to thrive on the economic advantages the Pearl River Delta offers. Manfred Mazen, technical vice president for FAW-VW, commented that the program represents an important step for the JV. Mr. Mazen believes that the event will play an important role in developing the new energy vehicle industry in China.

FAW-VW is currently in the process of finishing construction work on its Foshan production site, which is planned to begin operation next year. The site is tipped to be the home of the JV's own brand car, the Kaili E88 electric. The car, which is based on the New Bora EV, is expected to hit the market next year as well.
