SAIC-GM-Wuling fulfills sales target for first half of 2012

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 6) - SAIC-GM-Wuling sold a total of 750,800 vehicles from January to June, the Nanfang Daily reported today. The sales result, which represents year-on-year growth of 15.9 percent for the manufacturer, is far above its previously stated half-year sales goal of 1.35 million vehicles. SAIC-GM-Wuling's sales performance is one of the best among Chinese manufacturers this year.

SAIC-GM-Wuling's average market share in the first half of the year reached 49 percent, growing 3.7 percent from a year ago. In April and May, Wuling's market share exceeded 50 percent. Sales of Wuling branded vehicles during the six month period totaled 692,100 units, 13.3 percent more than the previous year. The Baojun own brand, meanwhile, brought in 37,100 orders for the manufacturer.

According to Yang Jie, general manager of sales for SAIC-GM-Wuling, the manufacturer has plans to add 200 outlets to its dealership network this year. Among its upcoming models, the manufacturer will release the upgraded version of its popular Rongguang microvan, as well as new variants of the Baojun 630, later this year. SAIC-GM-Wuling's new passenger automobile factory will begin operation this November, boosting the manufacturer's total annual production capacity by 400,000 vehicles.
