Skoda may establish independent sales network for imports in China
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 26) - Stories have been circulating throughout the Chinese media that Skoda may establish a new independent sales network for its future import models, the Nanfang Daily reported today. The new network, administered by VW China, will reportedly be responsible for all transactions involving future Skoda vehicles. According to the stories, negotiations between the Czech manufacturer and VW China have successfully been completed.
When asked for confirmation, several Skoda dealerships responded that they were unaware of plans for a new sales network. However, they did confirm that Skoda has plans to bring over a new compact SUV by the end of the year.
By establishing an independent sales network administered by parent VW, Skoda would be mimicking sister company Spanish Seat's Chinese marketing strategy. Seats are currently sold by specially selected VW dealerships. This method avoids entanglements with joint venture companies Shanghai VW and FAW-VW.
Skoda's Chinese division currently possesses an independent import department. According to the aforementioned stories, that department has already transferred to VW China.
Skoda is currently in the process of increasing the number of models available in China. There are plans to bring over several models, including the Yeti SUV, Octavia Combi, Superb Combi and Fabia Combi.
