Changan releases first small three-cylinder engine in China
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai August 27) - This past Friday, Chongqing-based Changan Automobile released a new three-cylinder low emission engine, the first of its kind in China, Xinhua reported today. The engine is codenamed 'S10TGD1' and is the latest in the manufacturer's 'S' line of engines.
According to Changan Vice President Zhu Huarong, the S10TGD1 engines use state-of-the-art technology that allow for high efficiency and power. "In terms of output, 1.0 L engines from the S series can match [normal] 1.8 L engines," Mr. Zhu boasted, adding that the said engines boast a maximum horsepower of 118 hp and maximum torque of 180 Nm. However, compared to their 1.8 L counterparts, the S line engines offer gasoline savings of over 30 percent. The engines also fully meet Euro V and Euro VI emission standards.
According to Zhan Zhangsong, assistant head of Changan Automobile's Research Institute and chief drivetrain engineer, the S engines have performed exceptionally well when tested for output and fuel consumption. Dr. Zhan attributes to this to the engines' simultaneous successful applications of fuel combustion and exhaust emission. The engines are the product of rigorous laboratory and field testing, and are extremely reliable. Dr. Zhan believes that their low emission outputs, high power output, compact size, light weight and relatively cheap production costs will help push the engines to the forefront of the Chinese automobile industry.
