Supply shortages of BYD's DCT gearboxes 'no longer an issue'

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai August 27) - BYD has recently been facing production problems due to supply shortages of its dual-clutch transmissions. In response to the issue, Assistant to the General Manager Li Yunfei stated that issues regarding gearbox production have already been resolved, Caijing reported earlier this week. Following production of the G6 and the market release of the F3 Surui, BYD has begun taking steps to ensure there is no future shortage of DCT gearboxes anywhere in the country.

The DCT gearboxes are a core part of BYD's patented TID drivetrain technology, featured prominently in the newly released F3 Surui (pictured). However, the manufacturer has previously failed in delivering large quantities of the gearbox on time. Mr. Li explains: "Hundreds of DCT gearboxes are produced monthly, but only a small number were able to make it out of the factory." However, he emphasizes that the problem has been taken care of. "Currently, production capacity [for the gearboxes] is no longer an issue," he stated.

The Surui, which made its Chinese market debut earlier this month, comes equipped with several features, including traction control and electronic stability control, as well as remote driving technology. The new technology allows the driver to use their remote control key to turn on and operate the Surui when standing at a 20 m radius outside the vehicle. Hou Yan, head of sales for BYD, believes that the manufacturer will be able to manage to sell 10,000 Suruis monthly by the end of the year.
