Changan to develop new EV for Chinese passenger automobile market
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai November 14) - Changan will release a personal use passenger pure electric vehicle in 2014, D1EV.com reported today. The news comes from Chen Ping, Changan's chief engineer and deputy general manager of its new energy vehicle department.
The Changan E30 pure electric (pictured) has been renowned for its technical prowess among domestic new energy vehicles, scoring 45.71 points and five stars on the C-NCAP crash test. 100 E30s have been in service in Beijing as EV taxis since March. Mr. Chen stated that Beijing will increase the number of Changan EVs used as taxis, adding that the manufacturer has already received a new order from the city. He points out that Beijing's recent push to increase EV usage has made it one of Changan's key markets.
Changan can manufacture 10,000 E30 EVs annually on a sole production line. Mr. Chen points out that there is still a lot of extra production capability that it is not using. He hopes that demand from municipal governments will help spur further sales.
