Domestically manufactured Dongfeng Peugeot 3008 makes Chinese market debut

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai January 10) - Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën's first domestically manufactured SUV model, the Peugeot 3008, made its official Chinese market debut in Sichuan's provincial capital of Chengdu, auto.sina.com.cn reported today. The 3008 is priced between 159,700 yuan and 214,700 yuan ($25,418-$34,171).

The domestically 3008 (pictured) possesses an exterior design that is noticeably more fashionable and hip than its imported counterpart. The SUV inherits its new front grille design from other Peugeot models. That design will be carried over to the new global version of the 3008, which will make its debut later this year. The domestic 3008's measurements are identical to the imported version's. Additionally, the 3008's rear seat and rear windows all use tinted glass.

The Chinese 3008's interior is also noticeably revamped, offering several advancements from the imported version. The steering wheel sports chrome plating, while the central control panel is covered in black walnut wood. Like its imported counterpart, premium variants of the Chinese 3008 also have a transparent pop-up information display on the top of the instrument panel. A colored LCD display on top of the central control deck supports GPS and other features.

The 3008 is equipped with the joint venture's recently debuted 1.6 L turbocharged high pressure engine. The engine, which is made out of lightweight aluminum alloy, is the result of joint research and development work between PSA and BMW AG. It can output a maximum of 120 kW and produce up to 240 Nm of torque. A high efficiency 2.0 L engine which can produce up to 108 kW and 200 Nm of torque is also available. Both engines can be linked to either a standard five-speed manual transmission or brand new six-speed manumatic one. The 3008 also comes with grip control and electronic stability control, as well as various driving modes for different types of traffic and weather conditions.
