Dongfeng sells 3.07m vehicles in 2012
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai January 23) - Dongfeng Motor released its final sales performance review for 2012 earlier this week, auto.qq.com reported today. According to the review, the Hubei-based manufacturer sold a total of 3.07 million vehicles last year, falling short of its 3.3 million vehicle sales goal. Dongfeng aims to sell 3.32 million vehicles this year, eight percent than the amount it sold in 2012.
Dongfeng Group's own brand vehicle sales last year totaled 1.12 million units, making it China's third largest seller of own brand automobiles in 2012. Passenger automobiles made up 515,200 of those sales, while the remaining 606,000 sales were commercial vehicles. The Dongfeng Fengshen brand actually managed to meet its sales target of 60,000 vehicles for 2012, making it one of the few own brand companies to do so.
Among its joint venture partnerships, Dongfeng Yueda Kia also completed its sales target for 2012, selling a total of 480,000 vehicles. Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën came very close to fulfilling its sales target, as well. By comparison, Dongfeng Nissan and Dongfeng Honda's performances fell well under initial predictions, due mainly to the backlash against Japanese products in China brought on by the Diaoyu Island dispute in the latter half of the year. The two JVs sold 773,000 vehicles and 282,000 vehicles last year, respectively.
Dongfeng also made a point to further develop its overseas operations last year, with its exports totaling 84,800 units, a full 32.26 percent higher than 2011's result. The manufacturer plans to export 300,000 vehicles in 2016.
