US: BMW assessing damage to cars after train derails at plant, official says
Greenville Online - A Norfolk Southern train derailed early today at the BMW Manufacturing Plant, a train spokesman said.
There were four cars that derailed, but it’s unclear why, said Robin Chapman, based in Norfolk, Va.
He said incident occurred at 5:52 a.m.
Sky Foster, a BMW spokeswoman, said the train had stopped at the plant and was en route to Charleston when the accident occurred.
She said that there were cars aboard the train, but BMW was “still assessing any damage.”
Foster said she didn’t know the number of railroad cars that derailed.
And didn’t know when the company would comment on the accident.
“All of that they will have to do,” she said.
No injuries were reported.
He said that the Norfolk Southern train officials from Greenville were on the scene, and were also evaluating three hours later.
Chapman said he would update the progress as the day went on.
