GAC increases 2013 sales target to 80000 vehicles

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai February 21) - Guangzhou Automobile Group, one of China's newest entries to the own brand market, announced that it will increase its 2013 sales goal from 65,000 vehicles to 80,000 vehicles, the Beijing Times reported today. At the same time, sources from GAC also revealed that the manufacturer is in the process of expanding its production capacity from 100,000 vehicles to 200,000 vehicles. The expansion is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

GAC's two current own brand models, the Trumpchi GS and GS5 (pictured) managed to bring in 33,000 new orders last year. Since its debut last April, the GS5 has performed surprisingly well, with GAC managing to sell over 4,000 units last October and over 6,000 this January. According to GAC Motor General Manager Wu Song, the GS5 will continue to be the Trumpchi brand's premiere model, due to the fact that the SUV market is less competitive than the sedan one in China.

GAC is currently waiting for the ideal opportunity to export Trumpchi models to North America and Europe. "It is hard to penetrate the European market, but it is only in Europe that the Trumpchi brand will be able to prove its [competitiveness]," Mr. Wu stated. GAC has reportedly already established a system for its export operation, and will continue to observe the situation of markets overseas.
