Volvo Cars China appoints new senior VP

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai March 4) - Volvo Cars has appointed Lars Danielson as senior vice president of its Chinese operations, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today. Mr. Danielson will oversee the Swedish manufacturer's day-to-day operations in China, replacing Freeman Shen. Mr. Shen will continue to serve as board chairman, where he will report to Volvo Group President and CEO Håkan Samuelsson.

As the newest head of Volvo's China branch, Mr. Danielson (pictured) will work together with his counterparts from other regions with the aim of helping speed up the manufacturer sales' recovery. Mr. Danielson will build on the foundation laid by his predecessor as Volvo advances its development strategy for China.

Mr. Danielson has over 20 years of experience at Volvo, having worked at various posts. He was transferred in 2010 from Sweden to China. Following his transfer, he served as deputy head of Volvo's manufacturing operations for the Asia-Pacific region. He oversaw the establishment of the manufacturer's new production site in Chengdu, Sichuan, which will begin operation later this year. During his acceptance speech, Mr. Danielson mentioned his fondness for Chinese culture, as well as his desire to continue to work together with his Chinese colleagues.

Mr. Samuelsson and Mr. Shen both have high prospects for Mr. Danielson's future in his new position. Mr. Samuelsson remarked that his experience in the industry is extremely valuable. Mr. Shen, meanwhile, said that he "believes Mr. Danielson will help boost Volvo's Chinese operations to reach a new development phase."
