Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 18) - Changan Mazda's new research and development center looks set to begin operation within the year, the Beijing Times reported today. The R&D center is set to play an important role in the joint venture's business strategy following its split with Changan Ford.

According to Changan Mazda Deputy General Manager Zhou Bo, the joint venture previously only possessed an automobile factory in Nanjing. The addition of a new R&D center will play an important role in allowing the JV to design new products for the Chinese market. Mr. Zhou revealed that the JV has two key goals for next five years: updating its entire product lineup and developing new subcompacts for the Chinese market.
