Shanghai GM's sales grow 32% in April
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 6) - Shanghai General Motors has recently released its sales performance review for April, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today. According to the review, the joint venture sold a total of 129,000 vehicles over the course of the month, equivalent to year-on-year growth of 32 percent. Shanghai GM's strong performance is attributed to stable sales of its key models and increased interest brought in from the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, which was held at the end of the month.
Buick remained Shanghai GM's best selling brand, managing to bring in 66,923 new orders in April. It was followed closely by Chevrolet, whose sales totaled 58,024 units. Cadillac's monthly sales totaled 4,077 units. Shanghai GM has sold a total of 530,000 vehicles from January to April, 19.3 percent higher than the amount it sold over the first four months of 2012.
Buick reported year-on-year sales growth of 23.9 percent for the month. Its new GL8 (pictured above), which made its debut in March, is off to a strong start, having brought in 6,244 orders in April. Combined sales of the Excelle XT and Excelle GT totaled 18,413 units, growing 53.7 percent from last April, while sales of the updated first generation Excelle, sold in the country as the Kaiyue, totaled 25,336 units. Over 100,000 Kaiyue Excelle sedans have been sold since the beginning of the year. The Enclave SUV managed to bring in 2,696 new orders in April.
Sales of Shanghai GM's Chevrolet models grew 39.5 percent in April. The Cruze (pictured below) remained popular, with its total sales reaching 17,277 units. In the less than four years it has been on the market, over 800,000 Cruze sedans have been sold in the country. The Malibu's monthly sales reached 8,786 units, marking a new record for the model. Sales of the New Sail last month totaled 22,874 units, with exports accounting for 7,465 of that amount.
Cadillac's sales nearly doubled in April, with the brand reporting a new monthly sales record for the country. Monthly sales of its SRX crossover and XTS sedan totaled 2,195 units and 1,802 units, respectively.
