GAC sells over 33000 Trumpchi own brand vehicles in first half of 2013

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 11) - 36,312 and 33,226 own brand GAC Trumpchi vehicles were manufactured and sold over the first six months of the year, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today. Both of those production and sales figures exceed yearly figures reported in 2012.

Despite its impressive performance, GAC's sales numbers are still behind those of rival own brand manufacturers. For example, Great Wall's sales in June alone totaled 57,000 units, up seven percent from May. By comparison, the highest monthly sales record for the Trumpchi GS5 was just 6,259 units this January.

GAC Motor General Manager Wu Song is confident that the Trumpchi GS5 (pictured) will strongly boost the manufacturer's brand awareness. Mr. Wu compares the GS5 to the Changan Ford Focus and Dongfeng Nissan CR-V.

Unlike other Chinese own brand models, which target economy-class consumers, GAC's Trumpchi brand is aimed at entry-level buyers. Its cheapest model, the GA5 carries a starting price of over 100,000 yuan ($16,180).

GAC Trumpchi's sales target for this year is set at 70,000 vehicles, Mr. Wu mentioned, adding that total sales may reach 80,000 vehicles. Sales targets for 2014, 2015 and 2017 are set at 120,000 vehicles, 200,000 vehicles and 500,000 vehicles, respectively.
