Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 28) - Audi has just sold its two millionth automobile in China, auto.sina.com.cn reported today. It has only taken the German manufacturer 33 months to sell its latest batch of one million automobiles in China. By comparison, it took 22 years for Audi to sell its first million automobiles in the country.

2013 marks FAW and Audi's twenty-fifth year of cooperation. Ever since its entry to the Chinese market in 1988, Audi has posted increasingly strong sales numbers. Audi sold a total of 230,000 automobiles in the country so far this year. The figure is 18 percent higher than the amount the manufacturer sold in the first half of 2012. That growth rate is higher than those of rival German manufacturers BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

The manufacturer looks to further its market share in the country with the completion of the FAW-Volkswagen factory in Foshan, Guangdong. The factory will be able to manufacture 150,000 Audis yearly, bringing Audi's total annual production capacity in the country to 700,000 units. FAW-VW Board Chairman and General Manager Zhang Pijie has stated his goal to see Audi's annual automobile production capacity reach one million units in the future.

Audi has sold a total of 780,500 vehicles globally over the first half of the year. The figure is 6.4 percent higher than the amount the manufacturer sold in the first half of 2012. China remains Audi's biggest market.

Audi aims to become the world's top-selling luxury manufacturer by 2015. The manufacturer has set an annual sales goal of 200 million units for 2020.
