Chinese Self-Owned Brands Has Taken up 54% of the SUV Market in Q1 of 2015 and Outsold Joint Ventures
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 20th)-The sales of SUV of JAC totaled 61,000 in a quarter, a year-on-year increase of 40%, which attributed to the good sale of Refine S3, a kind of small-size SUV.
According to China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the monthly sales of Refine S3 stood at 17,000 in March. And it became the second best seller in the SUV market, taking up 75% of the sales of JAC in the first three months this year.
The sales of SUV in China increased by 48.8% in the first quarter, benefiting the self-owned brands which domain the SUV market. The share of SUV market that self-owned brands have taken up rises by 16.2% year on year to 56.4%.
Official statistics shows that the sales of self-owned brands takes up 56.4% of the SUV market in a quarter, which is higher than that of jointed ventures. Among ten best sellers of SUV, there are eight self-owned brands and two joint ventures.
However, five self-owned brands are newly built while joint ventures are not. This means that self-owned brands cannot ignore the threat that joint ventures bring. Though there are less joint ventures than self-owned brands among best sellers of SUV, joint ventures perform better in the whole. Among ten manufacturers that sold most SUV in March this year, there were six joint ventures which took up 54% of market share, according to CAAM.
As joint ventures make more effort, the competition in the SUV market will become fiercer and fiercer. Therefore, self-owned brands should pay more attention to develop its advantage in other passenger vehicle markets rather than just focus on the SUV market so that they will not be knocked out by joint ventures in the future.
