SGMW launches first SUV to raise family vehicles proportion against sub-compact vehicles

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 27) - SGMW (SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile) launched its first SUV model Baojun 560 in July 18th as the joint-venture transferred its focus from sub-compact vehicles to family vehicles of MPV and SUV models.

As the shrinking of the sub-compact vehicles market, SGMW has planned to raise the sales proportion of its MPV and SUV against that of subcompact vehicles, which means SGMW to restructure the sales proportion of its two brands of Wuling Motor and Baojun Brands. Therefore the automaker launched the new SUV model Baojun 560, wishing it to raising the sales of Baojun brand.

The publication of Baojun 560 SUV completes the SGMW’s family vehicle portfolio, which includes Baojun Aveo compact car, Baojun 630 sedan, Baojun 610 compact car, Baojun 730 MPV.

SGMW has made great efforts in family vehicles strategy through polishing its first SUV Baojun 560. After a customer survey, SGMW has cut off those unfavorable configurations leaving those key ones remained, and has raised ride height to the highest among similar models.

In addition, in order to save expenses, SGMW talked Baoshan Iron & Steel into establishing a plant around the SGMW’s factory, which was the first plant of Baoshan Iron & Steel to be built near major equipment plant in Asia.

The overall sales volume of SGMW in the first half of the year was 985,370 units, a year-on-year increase of 10%, accounting for 49.3% of its annual sales target of two million units. In particular, the Baojun brand sold 183,363 units in the first half of the year with a high growth rate of 377%.
