China's BYD will cooperate with British bus manufacturer

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai October 20th)- Chinese president Xi Jinping paid a state visit in Britain from October 19th to 23th.Reporters of China Business News got news from BYD that it will make use of this opportunity to cooperate with Britain’s largest bus manufacturer ADL to co-produce electric bus. Moreover, BYD will hold debut of its world’s first electric double-decker bus in London.

BYD will sign contract with ADL to co-produce electric bus on October 21th. The two sides will combine their advantages together, with BYD providing battery and chassis and ADL conducting manufacturing process. BYD revealed that an order of 51 12-meter-high single electric buses from London would be their first project. The order is the largest in Europe’s electric bus market, breaking record of 35 electric buses from Netherlands Schiphol airport. BYD’s chassis, all the electric power systems and bus body will be assembled in ADL’s Falkirk Factory, Scotland.

Media reported that Wang Chuanfu, president and Chairman of BYD, believed that double-decker bus is always an important symbol of London, and that BYD’s development of a new-type red London double-decker bus opens a new era of cooperation between China and Britain. BYD made customized research and design on its product, and preserved Britain’s cultural symbol at the same time. Five double-decker electric buses altogether will make their trial-operation in London later this year.

BYD’s world first electric double-decker bus will be on display in Lancaster House, London on October 21th, which is its debut in Britain and even the world.
