Gasgoo.com (Shanghai Nov 10) – Recently, in the wake of success of Dacia of Renault, Fiat has announced that it will follow suit to launch a range of compact cars of low price based on the concept car of Aegea. This range is expected to help Fiat tap the low-priced compact cars segment in Europe.

The sales of Fiat has been decreasing in recent years, which could not catch up with that of premium brands such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW in Europe. Even Skoda and Dacia have performed better. Therefore, the low-priced range turns out to be a straw for Fiat to clutch at.

It is said that Tipo will be the first model of the low-price range. Like Lo-gan and Sandero of Duster, Tipo will be good and inexpensive. However, since both Lo-gan and Sandero are small cars, Tipo, as a sedan, has not any rival in Europe so far.

Tipo may be sold at €12,000 according to some insiders. But the price has not been officially announced now. Altavilla, Fiat’s Chief Operating Officer in Europe, said that Fiat has showed Tipo to franchisers in Italy, which was satisfactory. It is expected that it would appeal to customers in the future.

The concept sedan of Aegea was showed on the automobile exhibition in Istanbul in May this year. Fiat plans to begin the selling of Tipo in Turkey in November. Then it will come into Italy’s market in December and then will be sold in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and other 40 countries. And hatchback cars and tourers of this range will be released on the automobile exhibition in Geneva in March next year.

Tipo is expected to take the place of Linea and compete with Peugeot 301 and Rapid of Skoda in Eastern Europe and Turkey. Hatchback cars aim to take down Bravo in Western Europe. Tofas, a joint venture established by Fiat and a local Turkish automotive enterprise, will produce this range of compact cars whose production will total 700,000 for exporting till 2023. IHS Automotive predicts that the total sales of these three models are expected to reach 124,000 till 2018.
