A Possible Answer to Renault’s 600,000 Sales Goal: SUV+EV?
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai Nov 24)– At the 2015 Guangzhou Motor Show,Dongfeng Renault has debut its very first domestic model Kadjar SUV, which will hit the market in next March.
Dongfeng Renault has set a 600,000 units sales target in China. But there are at least 2 barriers between its ambitious goal and the reality: weak brand influence and very limited number of models. As a mainstream European brand, Renault only has decided to enter Chinese market 2 years ago, so it is still a respectively less recognizable brand in China. The timing may not be the best, considered the rather weak but still highly competitive Chinese auto market.
To handle that, DongFeng Renault has hired Bingbing Fan, a stunning Chinese female celebrity, to be its image ambassador for Kadjar SUV.
Yi Xiong, sales director at Dongfeng Renault, believed the company has made a good choice to firstly launch a SUV model, “The competition in SUV segment is fierce, but the market still holds a lot of opportunities with expanding demands.”
But the SUV alone can’t push Renault to the finish line. Renault is now discussing possible solutions with its Chinese partner Dongfeng. Alternative energy vehicles may be the answer to this question, considered China’s supports on its development.
According to the company, DongFeng Renault will launch another SUV model this year and an EV model Renault Fluence Z.E. in 2017.
