Ford, Sony make a deal
Ford Motor Co. and Sony Electronics plan to announce today that they have signed an agreement to offer Sony-branded audio systems across the Ford and Mercury brand lineups in North America starting in 2008.
That follows Ford's announcement in January that it had partnered with Microsoft to offer new technology called Sync, based on the Windows Automotive operating system, in its vehicles, starting this year. Sync will help consumers connect their handheld devices, such as phones and digital music players, to their cars wirelessly and conveniently.
The first vehicle to be equipped with Sony-branded audio will be unveiled April 4 at the New York Auto Show.
"We have enjoyed a very successful partnership at Ford of Europe with Sony-branded audio," Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president of Global Product Development, said in a news release. "Customers tell us that good audio systems are high on their list of priorities. Sony-branded audio and a host of other signature technologies will help differentiate Ford products in the marketplace."
