According to Jin Yibo, spokesman of CHERY Automobile Co, the company is expected to be the sales champion in March, with a sales volume of 45,000 units in this past month, surpassing 30,800 units that of Shanghai General Motors Co. in February.

Statistics from China Auto Industry Association show that Chery sold 32,900 units in January, exceeding Volkswagen AG's two Chinese ventures and trailing only Shanghai General Motors Co.

A total of 13,700 QQ compact cars were sold in January and the model Tiggo also saw high sales growth in the same month, but Chery QQ dropped to the tenth among best selling models with a volume of 6,900 being sold and Tiggo was ranked the third in February. Thus the Anhui Province-based auto maker need to more than double the sales of the prior month to become sales champion in March, which is a first-time for self-brand automakers to reach this milestone.
