Volkswagen Group China vice president unveiled that VW is developing substitute products for Santana and Jetta as one part of its powertrain assembly strategies.

Sources from the company say that though Santana and Jetta are currently claiming high sales, these older models will need to be upgraded to accomplish the goal of reducing fuel consumption and displacement by 20% by 2010. This goal is an average ideal for all newly launched and established models while the emission limit for new models will have to drop more than this percent. VW will develop more revised models as a substitute for the existing old models and reduced the quantity of old models step by step.
