PPG to paint Chery cars

PPG Industries, the world's leading manufacturer of transportation coatings,is to set up its 8th factory in China to supply Chery Automobiles--China's largest domestic car-maker with automotive coatings.

On April 25th, the Fortune-500-listed PPG, broke ground with its 8th factory in Wuhu, the city where Chery is based. This is the first time the American PPG builds a plant that exclusively serves homegrown automakers, compared with former clients such as BMW, VW, GM, PSA, Mazda and DaimlerChrysler.

PPG will invest 70 million RMB(9. 07 million USD) in the initial phase and the new production line will come into use early of next year. The annual output is expected to coat 1 million units of Chery cars ,  with an enlarged production scale later.

"we believe that cooperation with Chery will achieve win-win results," said Yan Caiming, vice president of PPG China. Yan emphasized that PPG eyes Chery's great potential as a leader of Chinese Independant automakers.
