Chrysler preowned vehicle sales decline
DaimlerChrysler AG’s Chrysler Group said its top dealerships sold 10,393 certified preowned vehicles in April 2007, compared with 10,586 in April 2006.
The Auburn Hills automaker said the 2% decline in the sale of used cars and trucks was due in part to overall weakness across the car industry. The company added that Chrysler-brand sales fell 7% for the month to 3,580 units.
Chrysler Group’s Five Star dealers – there are about 2,100 across the country - saw a 45% jump in sales of the Chrysler 300/300C, while sales of the Chrysler Pacifica and Jeep Liberty up 7% and 17%, respectively. Sales of used Dodge Magnums also increase 29% year-to-date.
“April was a soft month industrywide for used vehicle sales,” said Peter Grady, Director – DaimlerChrysler Motors Remarketing, in a statement. “Our dealers took a breather from their record-setting pace, but still delivered excellent sales results.”
Certified preowned vehicles must fall within the 2002 and 2007 model years, have fewer than 65,000 miles and pass a 125-point inspection, Chrysler says. The vehicles are backed by an 8-year/80,000 mile powertrain limited warranty.
