Ford China putting focus on Yangzi River Delta

Cheng Meiwei, the vice-president of the Ford Motor Company and the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Ford Motor China, announced during a news conference that the Ford Motor Research & Engineering at Nanjing was recently given approval by the Chinese government. He said that the facility will give the Ford Motor China significant boost in engineering.

At the same time Ford Mazda Engine Company has start operation and the newly opened Ford Mazda Automobile Company will begin production of a new compact sedan before the end of 2007; Its Chongqing plant is also boosting capacities where the first-gene Ford Mondeo will be made. All these milestones mark that Ford’s development strategy in China with focus on Yangzi River Delta has been formed

Ford Motor China now covers one of the most comprehensive and competitive operations in the Chinese market, including full-scale vehicle and engine production; research, development and engineering; sales; after sales services; and auto financing. The lineup of Ford China will include different vehicle body types such as premiere and mid-size vehicles, small cars, SAVs, SUVs, and commercial vehicles, he added further.   
 
The world's third largest carmaker's sales in China rose about 80.6 percent last year and achieved a 16.4% in the first quarter 2007; Chang'an Ford Mazda sales rose 40.8 percent to 38,908 units in the first three months.
