VW joint ventures: top two of Apr. sales in China

The Sino-foreign JV FAW VW and Shanghai VW seized the first and second place in the top 10 sales list in April, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. 

The top 10 auto manufacturers by sales are---FAW VW, Shanghai VW, Shanghai GM, Chery, Dongfeng Nissan, Guangzhou Honda, FAW Toyota, Dongfeng Peugeot Citron, Tianjin FAW and Geely. FAW VW and Shanghai VW ranked the first and the second with sales of 40,836 units and 40198 units separately.

Chery and Geely, the two regarded as flag-bearers of the Chinese homegrown brands, slipped in ranking, but Dongfeng Nisssan stepped up. Tianjin FAW replaced Beijing Hyundai to be in the tenth place.

The top 10 carmakers of April sold 266,000 passenger cares in China, covering 64.61% of all locally-made sedans.  The overall sales rose by 16.6% in April, from that of a year earlier to 411,800 units, 28.2% of which were from the domestic brands.
