Auto sales in April should be a record monthly high as in the past, but according to the data compiled by the industry organization---CAAM, it is not the case.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said that sales of the passenger cars in April was only 436,200 units, though an increase of 17% Y/Y and 4% M/M, the figure was not a record monthly high as the past years. The performance in April lagged far behind the sales of 444,100 units in Jan..

As to the reason why the auto consumption failed to burst, experts say that the major automakers rushed to cut prices after the Spring Festival is partly responsible, moreover, the Shanghai International Auto Show in late Apr. and the succulent Golden Week of May Day also reinforced the consumers' decision to delay their purchase plan. All these combined to put off the should-released purchasing power.

China-made autos lead the market

In April, China-made autos topped 815,200 units and sales hit 808,700, an increase of 18.48% and 19.78% respectively, compared to the same period last year.

Independent-brand sedans reached  sales of 116,200 units, accounting for 28.22% of which all the China-made sedans whose market share was the largest. The market shares that was left were covered by  Japan, German, American, Korean, French, and Italian-made autos, whose coverage were 26.88%, 20.44%, 14.07%, 5.56%, 4.52% and 0.31%, separately.
