China surges to the second largest auto parts exporter to the U.S.

According to the trade statistics from US Department of Commerce, in 2007 China surpassed Germany, becoming the second largest auto parts exporter to the United States for the first time. China exported automobile parts to the United States worth 1.936 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter of this year, exceeding Germany's, which exported of 1.934 billion U.S. dollars to the United States. In the same period last year, China's auto parts exports to the United States were 15.2 billion dollars, while those of Germany were 17.3 million dollars.

Japan is the No.1 exporter, with a total export of 3.57 billion U.S. dollars. Canada, Mexico, the North American Free Trade Agreement countries were excluded.

According to the China Automobile Manufacturer Association statistics, from 2000 to 2005, Chinese parts industry's average annual export growth rate was 54.4%, exceeded the growth rate of imports (29.5%) substantially. Meanwhile, "53 core domestic auto parts import and export status quo", a report released by South Korea's Trade Association, said that average annual export growth rate was 30.3% from 2000 to 2006 which was substantially higher than the growth rate of imports (17.5%).
