Great Wall to open up overseas markets

To expand overseas markets, the Great Wall Automobile accelerates its pace of building engine plants. A senior official of Great Wall Automobile said recently, that Great Wall will invest 257 million U.S. dollars (about 2 billion Yuan) in building an engine factory with an annual output of 400,000 petrol and diesel engines, and is expected to put into operation in the first half of 2008.

"This will greatly advance our exports overseas, particularly in Europe where diesel engines become a mainstream," he said. Diesel engines will be the next key project of Great Wall Automobile. Wang Fengying, general manager of Great Wall Automobile said that Great Wall will take Greece, Spain and Portugal as access to enter the European market, and hope to enter American market in 2007.

In September 2006, 500 Hover CUV were firstly exported to Italy, and a staff from Great Wall Automobile said, before the end of February this year, another 200 Hover will be exported to Italy, Great Wall is expected to export 1,000 vehicles to Italy this whole year, including other Compact Car made by Great Wall Automobile.
