The Baoshan engine factory of Shanghai Automobile Passenger Car Company has recently produced its 10000th Roewe KV6 engine, China's first locally developed V6 engine. This has ushered China's middle-grade automobile engine manufacturing technology into a new era, breaking decades of foreign monopology

The KV6 engine uses total aluminum cylinder, with its weight 40% lighter than the cast iron engine. The V-6 cylinder engine performance is far better than the 4-cylinder engine.

SAIC plans to produce 300,000 units of the KV6 engines by year 2010; 200,000 of which will be fitted into vehicles produced by SAIC. This means that the remaining 100,000 units' engines will be sold to other auto manufacturers. It is reported that Dongfeng Liuzhou Motors and several domestic automakers will order the engines produced by SAIC.
