Roewe W261 to be launched at the end of 2007
Following Roewe 750's success, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. (Group) (SAIC), one of China's three biggest automakers, plans to launch its second model - Roewe W261 in the Chinese market by the end of this year.
Moreover, it is reported that the automaker will export its proprietary Roewe W261 to Europe starting next year. Initially Roewe will be distributed under the SsangYong brand. The company plans to set up a sales task force in Europe from 2010 to resume the Roewe brand.
The W261 is developed by SAIC alone. It will be assembled on a completely new platform, established by engineers in Britain, Shanghai and South Korea, The model is positioned as a compact sedan, having the potential to rival Corolla, Civic, Sagitar and C-triomphe.
