China vehicle ownership topped 150 million units

Sources from China's Public Security Ministry said that the recorded number of vehicles in use in China is 150 million in the first half of 2007, of which 53,558 million are autos and 83,548 million are motorcycles. The number of drivers is 157 million, of which a majority of 100 million are auto drivers. 

The sales of vehicles have maintained its growth momentum, which is larged contributed  by autos and motorcycles sales.

Private vehicles in use saw a rapid growth during this period. The number of private vehicles owned was 115 million units, accounting for 75.43% of the total vehicle in use, an increase of 5.16% compared with the 5,653,618 units at the end of 2006

The import of vehicles has continued to increase. Import vehicles in use were 3,035,237 during the same period.

According to the data, majority of the drivers come from the same age group and have similar number of years of driving experience. The number of drivers with less than three years driving experience was 57,516, representing 36.60 percent of the total. Drivers aged between 26 and 50 years old reached 126 million, 80.28 percent of the total.
