High emission MPV sales plunged in first half 2007

Overall MPV sales in the Chinese auto market have maintained a stable growth in the first half year, despite a slight decline in demand compared with the same period last year. Statistics show that in the first six months, MPV sales in China went up by 12.90% to 107,000 units, a 20.8% drop year on year in terms of growth rate.

Sales of MPVs with engine sizes ranging from 1.6 to 2.0 liters saw an increase of 47.25% to 29,600 units in the first half year, and vehicles with engine displacement between 2.0-2.5 liters experienced a sales increase of 38.04% to 54,000 units. The above two MPV types represent 78.10% market share of the total in the first half year. Also, the sales of vehicles with emissions between 2.5 liters and 3.0 liters marked down by 36.83% to 16,300 units.

Among hot-selling MPV brands, sales of three Jianghuai Ruifeng, Honda Odyssey and SGM Buick GL8 were 20,100, 19,000 and 18,500 respectively. Ruifeng has kept its growth momentum compared with the other two brands and the total sales of the above three accounted for 53.83% of the total.
