More than 400 models to stop production due to high fuel consumption
China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDR) has unveiled the name list of passenger vehicles that can’t meet the compulsory "Limits of Fuel Consumption for Passenger Vehicles," a total of 55 enterprises including 444 models have failed to meet the standard and production of these models will be suspended soon, while 2374 models from 95 automakers have gone through the investigation.
Some models made by Chinese automakers like DongFeng Automobile Co, Tianjin FAW Xiali Corp and Shanghai-VW fail to pass the standard, said NDR.
It's the second time the NDR has made such an investigation since the standard on passenger car fuel consumption becomes enact in 2004. In the first round of investigation, launched in October 2006, all the 409 models made by 34 Chinese automakers met the standard.
According to NDR, the compulsory "Limits of Fuel Consumption for Passenger Vehicles" aims to cut litres per 100 kilometers by up to 10 per cent by 2008 in the first stage and in the second stage, which starts Jan 1st, 2008, requires vehicle fuel consumption to drop by another 10 per cent from the first phase level.
