BAW, used to build military vehicles, a few foreign-brand models, and various auto parts, but now they are attempting to develop their own singular brand image.

"Our own-brand vehicles comprise of two series: the SUVs and 'Beijing' brand sedans," said Xu Heyi, Director of BBDC (Beijing Benz-Daimler Chrysler), "We plan to launch the first model during the 2008 Beijing Auto expo, and the second model at the Beijing Olympic Games, then the third one in 2009 when celebrating the 60th National Holiday,

"And there will be at least two new vehicles to release in 2010," added Xu, who was interviewed by the local media.

Finally, Xu emphasized that all the independent-brand models will be exclusively developed by BAW, not connecting with its Korean automaker Hyuandai Motors. BAW has joint ventures with Hyuandai, DaimlerCrysler and Johnson Controls.

Another Chinese automaker SAIC launched it's Roewe brand sedan based on the Rover 75 technology, has decided to simply reuse its old “Shanghai” brand for the new car. SAIC has been a major player from joint-ventures with GM and Volkswagen.
